Smart Chess Game is the next app in the Rocasoftware portfolio scheduled for a major update. Here's a look at what's planned for the upcoming release.
Target: API 36
Like all apps in the portfolio, Smart Chess Game will be updated to target Android 16 (API 36). This is required by Google Play to keep the app listed and ensures compatibility with the latest Android devices.
What's being updated
- Updated Gradle and AGP to current versions
- Full AndroidX migration
- Updated Google Play Billing Library
- Updated AdMob SDK
- Minor UI adjustments for edge-to-edge displays
Gameplay stays the same
The core chess engine and gameplay will remain unchanged. The focus of this update is stability and compliance — not new features. Once the modernization is complete, new features can be considered based on user feedback.
